Although it may seem like a distant reality, for this year of 2023, there are forecasts of launches of ultralight models that can reach up to 240 km/h.

The pre-sale price of one of the motorcycles was US$380,000, equivalent to almost R$2 million in direct conversion.

Although they are expensive, these models do not require a conventional driver's license. The company responsible for the sale wants to provide training and then release the vehicle for use.

How each government would deal with this issue is unknown, however, below, see what is already known about flying motorcycles.

What does the flying motorcycle system look like?

Flying motorcycles were designed with a simpler system than you might think. Using VTOL technology, the vehicles can take off and land vertically anywhere without much difficulty.

Its space is similar to that of a small car, and therefore it can be considered a light vehicle. The models are divided into ultralight (USV) and experimental category (ESV).

The ultralight (USV) category is suitable for personal leisure. However, the developers had not started the prototypes with this purpose, they realized the potential for the models to be sold to ordinary people and continued.

The ultralight model can reach approximately 96 km/h and is similar to a 125cc motorcycle. However, the experimental category version (ESV) is more powerful and reaches 240 km/h. Therefore, its use is recommended for more specific purposes.

Companies working on the flying motorcycle project

One of the main companies responsible for flying motorcycles is Jetpack Aviation. The company announced in 2019 that it would launch the new vehicles on the market, but with the intention of using them for military, government or various types of rescue operations.

However, as this technology is of interest to the general market, the company decided to make it available to everyone. Pre-sales began in the same year, at a price of US$1,400,000. The official launch was scheduled for 2023.

The Japanese company ALI Technologies also demonstrated the operation of a hoverbike similar to the ones we see in Star Wars.

The motorcycle has vertical take-off and landing, autonomy of just 40 minutes and can reach speeds of 100 km/h, according to the manufacturer.

The pre-sale price was US$680,000, approximately R$3.5 million.

Flying motorcycles are now a reality

Flying motorcycles have been a reality since 2019. Although they are not yet in circulation on the market, Jetpack Aviation began pre-sales a few years ago and is preparing to officially launch them in the United States.

There is no forecast for availability in other countries. It is believed that companies around the world are waiting for the launch of flying motorcycles to see their acceptance in the market and then also start working with the technology.

Jetpack Aviation may also resell its flying motorcycles to countries other than the United States.
